This is a selection and collection of lectures in Dynamic Meteorology. I consider scale analysis one of the most important skills for dynamic meteorology, science, and, in fact, it is a useful life skill. How do I quickly analyze a situation and compare one thing to another? In this lecture, we continue to analyze the horizontal momentum equation for large-scale, rotating flows at middle latitudes. We saw, earlier, that this reveals the geostrophic balance as an important diagnostic of middle latitude flows. However, there is no acceleration in the geostrophic balance, and to predict the weather and climate, we need to know the acceleration. By definition, we define the difference between the "real" wind and the geostrophic wind as the ageostrophic wind. If there is acceleration, then there is a geostrophic wind.
