Two totally cool Typhoons of 2 (AC) Squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth request a formation departure (Pairs Take Off). We also caught them on their return to base, once again, in a formation for their arrival. Just like TED HQ (RAF Coningsby), RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland is one of two RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) stations which protect our UK airspace. There are four phoon squadrons ready to sort the airspace out and three Poseidon MRA1 squadrons, some reggies of the RAF Regiment squadron, and a Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment reserve squadron. It was only in 2014 that QRA (I)N permanently moved to RAF Lossiemouth, with 6 Squadron moving in June 2014, 1(F) Squadron moving in September 2014, and II (AC) Squadron moving in January 2015. Number 2 Squadron, also known as No. II (Army Co-operation) Squadron, is the most senior squadron of the Royal Air Force. It is currently equipped with the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 since reforming there on the 12th of January 2015. No. 2 Squadron's traditional army co-operation role is reflected in the "AC" of its title, its motto Hereward (Guardian of the Army), and the symbol of a Wake knot on its crest.
