How we ended up in Gustavia, St. Barts from Sint Maarten. Double mooring job. Sailing Mirtillo S2E3

‪@TravelwithNaomi‬ #sailing #cruising #beautifulislands #saintbarthelemy #mooring #stbarts #lifeonboard #adventure It's a go time! After the successful launch of Mirtillo in Philipsburg, we were waiting for ideal weather condition to finally leave Sint Maarten. We hoisted gib and brand new main, we were patiently waiting for the bad weather to pass. We went to customs and immigration to report our departure. Based on the condition, we decided to go to Jolly Harbour in Antigua, which was estimated to last about 18-20 hours leaving at sunset. Took the last walk along the Great Bay Beach, prepared a meal for the journey in advance. Lifted the anchor and off we went. 30 minutes into the journey, the water was not calm any longer. We thought it would get better eventually, but I was totally down even with motion sickness pills. Martin then made decision to cut this trip short to Gustavia, Saint-St Barthelemy . We originally decided to skip St. Barts because wind direction for anchorage was not ideal.., but we ended up there due to my condition.. The anchorage was very rough, and it was rolling as if we were still sailing. Martin, while he was at the shore for customs and immigration, he inquired about mooring to the marina. It was double mooring, and Martin booked the spot. Well well, I was happy that we would leave the anchorage, but was not too excited about performing the mooring. It's a challenging task for us, plus this is a double mooring. We went to the spot by dinghy and Martin prepared the lines for us to make it easier. The space was incredibly tight! The effort paid off because it turned out to be much steadier place! At the end, we did not end up staying in Gustavia, because when we re-checked the weather the following morning, the condition for the crossing to Antigua was looking really good. We enjoyed the town and wish we had more time to explore the island, but we wanted to move on to go for some distance, so we left. I have created a short video of the town of Gustavia so check it out!!    • Scenery around Gustavia city port, Sa...   Enjoy!
