Here is my 1976 Lotus Elite with a Rover V8 engine conversion coming up for sale on ebay very soon. Turn up the volume and enjoy! - (now very sought after) 5 speed manual Rover (Vitesse presumably) gearbox giving 30+mpg on a run in 5th. - 70mph = approx 2500rpm in 5th. - Block hugging headers then all stainless exhaust thereafter. - Mildly tuned engine by previous owner. - Holley carb. - Low profile inlet manifold to reduce engine height. - Dished underside air cleaner again to keep the engine height low. - Pop up headlamps actually work and use motors not the dreaded Lotus vacuum system. - Door beams not rotten. - Electric window mechanisms actually work. - Windscreen wiper works. - Seats not ripped. Reupholstered in half leather and a hard wearing cloth by previous owner. - Interior good. - Headlining intact. - All brightwork present. - New wooden gearknob. - Galvanised chassis. All metalwork underneath has been painted with POR15 then black waxoyled. - Has always been garaged. I bought this car around 11 years ago with the engine conversion. Work done over last 5 years: - Front uprights changed for Canley Classics system with lower ball joint instead of the dreaded trunnions (old ones available if you want them). - New front shock absorbers. - New front spindles, wheel bearings, discs and pads. - Jaguar independent rear suspension system with inboard discs. New discs, recon calipers, new pads, new shocks, new springs (2 pairs) approx 3 years ago. Handbrake mechanism fixed. - Recored radiator. - New clutch master cylinder. - SU fuel pump; Burlen conversion to electronic points system. - New stainless rear exhaust boxes maximum size that would fit (previously had rusted off cherry bombs which made the car VERY loud). Last MOT was 2010. So, a reliable usable fast Lotus which has been all over Britain from where I live in South Wales including Le Mans a couple of times, all without anything going wrong. I may be mad but selling for the challenge of a new project, need the space now.
