Trains Passing On The Hill In The Snow. Norfolk Southern Train Going Up The Hill At A Railroad Crossing & A Train Going Down The Long Hill At The Same Time. These trains are in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on the NS Rat Hole Line. There are 5 trains in this video with all of them on the hill. One train is a steel coils train. It usually is a train with a DPU but this time it was short enough that it didn't need one. Darn. It was a cold day when I filmed these trains but whenever there is snow on the ground it is guaranteed that I am filming somewhere. Both locations are in Crescent Springs on the steepest and curviest parts of the line. This line is owned by Cincinnati and leased to Norfolk Southern for about 25 million a year. The line runs from Cincinnati to Chattanooga , Tennessee. There are manned locomotives used on some of the trains going up the hill. After a train is pushed up the hill, the locomotive will cut off the train at Elsmere right behind the city park and the locomotive will run back down the hill light. Can someone tell me what the ruling grade on the hill is? I have not been able to find that. I am estimating about 20 trains a day use the line and the primary radio frequency for this part of the line is 160.950 which is used to call out the signals, talk to the dispatcher and the trackside defect detectors are on this frequency . Some railroad switching is also done on this frequency but I have noticed other frequencies being used for switching on the line also. Filmed December 27, 2022 Thanks for watching!
