When I first started to cut trails on my property I really did not know where to start. The property was way too overgrown and thick to casually make a path. I searched online a didn’t really find many resources on how to build a trail, what tools to use, how to plan them, what steps to take, ect. After basically trial and error I decided I wanted to make a video detailing the tools and techniques that work best. You can use these methods to make simple walking paths, official hiking trails, 4 wheeler trails, or hunting breaks. The final list of tools: Boots Gloves Chainsaw Chainsaw tools / oil Gas string trimmer / brush blade Gas hedge trimmers 2 cycle gas Brush axe Machete Transportation (ATV, truck, gator, ect) Generally the steps are make a small, simple single track trail to scout the area and so that it will be easy to change if you want to make some alterations later. Then make an ATV / four wheeler wide trail to get things started, don’t worry about cutting down trees yet. Then make a final pass widening the trail to double track or the width of a truck, cutting down only the trees you can not possibly go around.
