Central Moreton Bay – Huybers Beacon to Cleveland Pt.

s04e21 In this twelfth video in the series on central Moreton Bay I am looking at the area from King Island to Cleveland. This stretch of reef is close to boat ramps, close to shore, sheltered and seldom fails to provide some action to those with the right rig and bait. Tide and timing come into play if you want to land the larger specimens but if you are only after a good time of catch and release then you can get that almost any time. It is a great spot to get out and fish in relative shelter when the wind is keeping you from other areas in the bay. Close enough for kayakers and rowers to get to without a great deal of effort. Super cheap on the petrol if you have a powerboat. A spot where you can fish within sight of your crab pots and come home with a feed of both. What did I forget to mention in the video this time? • There is a huge expanse of reef between King Island and Cleveland Point, if they are not biting after 20 minutes or so, try moving a bit. • There is not a lot of structure (rubbish) left in the spoil ground, I expect most has rotted away or disappeared into the sand over the years. • I have caught squid in this area on baited hooks. Given the grass beds in the vicinity I plan to try jigging for them at some point (now that I can catch them on a jig). • The history buffs among you may have noticed that the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815. Waterloo bay is beside Wellington Point which was named after the Duke of Wellington in 1842. • If you visit Wellington Point by land, you can walk out to King Island at low tide.
