Open and Interoperable 3D Geospatial for the Metaverse

For the last decade, Cesium has brought graphics and game engine techniques to 3D geospatial via the CesiumJS WebGL engine and surrounding platform. Now, we are bringing 3D geospatial to game engines. At the center of enabling full-scale 3D globes and content in game engines is 3D Tiles, an OGC Community Standard created by Cesium. 3D Tiles is a spatial index for subdividing and tiling the globe to enable efficient streaming and rendering, and is built on glTF, a Khronos Group standard. Cesium is enabling the usage and adoption of 3D Tiles in game engines by leveraging Cesium Native, an engine-agnostic open source library that provides 3D Tiles streaming, lightweight glTF loading, and high-precision 3D geospatial math for all game engines and platforms. Using Cesium Native, we're building an integration into O3DE to stream and render massive high-resolution 3D content and full-scale 3D globes, allowing developers to build immersive real-world applications using O3DE such as flight simulators, real-world first-person training, AEC applications, digital twins, and more.
