THE COWBOYS also features a superb film score. After The Reivers, John Williams reunited with Mark Rydell. His score features heroic, rhythmic melodies that perfectly illustrate the film's vast landscapes and adventures, with motifs that represent the characters and situations. For example, the theme of the young boys, ‘The Boys’, is light and cheerful, contrasting with the darker themes associated with the antagonists. A great score for a Western, THE COWBOYS is also, without doubt, one of the main cornerstones of the work and orchestral style of the Johnny-turned-John.
