(Click on CC for subtitles in Hindi) (भजन के बोल देखने के लिए CC पर क्लिक करें.) Kaluram Bamaniya ji belongs to a vibrant tradition of singing bhakti poets such as Kabir, Gorakhnath, Bananath and Meera from the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. His impish wit adds colour to the direct simplicity and soulfulness of his songs. He sings and plays the 5-stringed tambura and khadtal and is accompanied by his troupe on the dholak, violin and manjiras. Here he sings "Lakh Lakh Vandan", this Bhajan marks the importance of a Guru in our lives. The poet says that, the way a Panihar (person who fetches water from the well) worships the well, the poet also worships his Guru. This shows the never-ending significance that is attached to the presence of a Master or a spiritual guide. As the poet gets aware of his Guru's arrival, he prepares for it, he decorates the pathways with beautiful flowers like scented Chameli. The aura and charm of his master is ever-present and is felt by one and all. It is spreading everywhere like the beautiful red colour of Henna. When the poet tries to find the essence of his master, he himself gets drowned in it and becomes one with the Master's grace. The poet's restlessness has finally come to an end. He is at last under the guidance of his Guru who saved him from all the miseries by showing the path to righteousness and salvation. The poet will be able to grow past the materialistic boundations of this life and focus on spiritualism and peace. ________________ Translation: I bow to my master, I bow to the lord With endless revere, I bow down at his feet To my guru, I bow in such a way The well bows to the waterman Seeing my true guru come, I spread a mat It rains flowers And jasmine spreads everywhere Master, your mastery Pervades in every earthen vessel Alike the leaves of heena Redness cannot be seen The redness of my beloved Wherever I see his redness Redness, I went to see I also became red O master! the ocean of qualities To you, I offer millions of salutations To you, I offer billions of salutations An ignorant being Comes to the master’s shelter The lamp of wisdom, O master! Do light Wandering in the cycles of eighty-four lakh, This being came to you Get me rid of the cycles of eighty-four Drowning, O master! You saved me This present life, O master Embellish it O master!
