Large Hall Comparison: Fox 601, M222-CL, M150EDLX

Back in Barrus Concert Hall for an early morning side-by-side run through. I find the M222CL to be very similar to the Fox 601, which makes sense as both are thick wall. The M150EDLX definitely offers a change in sound. Both instruments respond with greater ease and pitch stability as compared to my Fox. Obviously, there are some technique issues as I switch between instruments. Several people have mentioned changing reed styles. Of course! But for consistency, I'm choosing to play on what I use currently with my Fox. However, I will say, with the Moosmann bassoons, more so than the Yamaha and Leitzinger, it is obvious I would have to do a reed overhaul to allow them to be the best they can be. In general, I use three basic shapes working from tube cane: Fox 1, Christlieb, Rieger 1A. I switch around quite often and experiment with other shapes as I work with my students here at BYU-Idaho - thanks Barton Cane for making it so easy. In one of the previous videos, I switched around bocals as much as I could. The Moosmann receiver makes that a bit more difficult as none of my bocals fit well enough. As always, share your thoughts and insights! I am so grateful for all the wisdom which has been shared and I'm working to try everything that is recommended to get the most from this process.
