How To Do a Brick Fireplace Reface in a Weekend!

We wanted to update our fireplace. It was from the 1950s and it was dirty with soot and the mantle was old and not level. We decided to modernize it with some tile that we had left over from a bathroom remodel. We use porcelain large format floor tile that was 12x24 in. We set the tile in a vertical offset /subway pattern. We used rapid setting mortar to adhere the tile to the brick. We used the Levolution System to space and level the tiles on the hearth and the walls. The system was really easy to use and was very helpful in making sure that all of the tiles stayed level while the mortar set. This was a moderately difficult project and can probably be done by anyone who has laid tile before, however a beginner could do it if they took their time and used regular mortar that didn't set quickly and space the project out over a few days. This project took us 2.5 days to do. The first day and a half was prepping and setting all of the hearth and wall tiles. The second day was grouting and cleaning caulking and putting quarter round up around the hearth. The total cost of this project was approximately $100. This of course is not including the tools that we already had such as a tile cutter, trowels, floats. we also did not have to buy much tile because we had tile left over from a bathroom floor.
