Ziegfeld Follies Inspired Fashion Shoots with the new Canon R5

For this array of Vintage Glamour style photos I put Canon’s brand new full-frame mirrorless camera the R5 (https://lindsayadler.photo/r5) through its paces — let’s take a look! If you follow my work you probably notice a few things: 1. I love color 2. I love amazing wardrobe 3. I love amazing hair and makeup 4. I love moody, dramatic lighting 5. I love vintage glamour, Burlesque and the Ziegfeld Follies era which encompasses all of the above! For those who don’t know, The Ziegfeld Follies was a series of elaborate theatrical revue productions on Broadway in New York City in the early to mid 1900s and consisted of stunning showgirls decked out in beautiful and elaborate costumes. Inspired by the Folies Bergère of Paris, the Ziegfeld Follies were conceived and mounted by Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., reportedly at the suggestion of his then-wife, the stage actress and singer Anna Held. The shows' producers were turn-of-the-twentieth-century producing titans Klaw & Erlanger. (Source: Wikipedia). Now you know the history, and why I LOVE it so much! This may be a creative revue (pun intended) featuring the R5 but make no mistake, my heart belongs to the style! 😃 I love drawing on the past to inspire my future shoots, I find that this makes them even more timeless and increases their longevity. Thank you Donna Hood of TEASE Production (  / missdonnahood  ) for the AMAZING wardrobe supplied! Her elegant pieces would serve as the foundation of inspiration for transforming the models into era specific characters! These wardrobe elements helped me to further tell a story with my photos and allowed me to craft my lighting on the fly to adapt to the wardrobes. For these images I was mainly shooting with the Canon RF 85mm 1.2 and the Canon 24-105mm F4. The 85mm was perfect for the tight intimate shots with narrow depth of field and the 24-105 was ideal for the wider shots to really capture drama and the full costumes in all their glory. Using the R5 was really comfortable and effortless, with all the familiar controls we've come to love with the 5D line but with the benefits of mirrorless, tack sharp lenses and fantastic new capabilities. One of my goals for this shoot was to be able to create fine art prints and thankfully the R5 is more than capable of doing this with it's 45 megapixel powerhouse. During this non-stop shoot day, I was able to capture 10 different looks and 1500 images. Crazy, I know. When creating these images I often selected wide apertures to soften the background and bring attention to the intricate detail to the makeup and costuming. One of the fantastic features of the R5 is focusing with a narrow depth of field. I'm sure we can all attest to that missing that focus and not realizing it until afterwards (ugh epic fail!). Not with the R5. It has amazing face tracking and eye detection autofocus for total precision, even when the subject is moving side to side! This may sound like an advertisement for the R5 but know that it's a glowing revue (get it).
