Eddie Taylor Straight Out of Chicago Guitar Lesson

Words fail to capture the awesomeness of Eddie Taylor. His driving rhythms were the backbone of the Jimmy Reed sound-- the most popular blues artist of his day-- as well as the glue that held some of John Lee Hooker's most powerful recordings together. That was just in the 50s! By the 70s and 80s, he had absorbed some B.B., Albert King and Lowell Fulson influences while retaining his hard-core Mississippi roots from Charlie Patton and Big Boy Crudup. His lightning fast thumb and fingerpick attack and his own mercurial and brooding disposition combined to make some haunting performances. Just a few of my favorite Eddie Taylor recordings of his later period include his work on Willie William's "Raw Unpolluted Soul", Big John Wrencher's "Honeydripper" and his own "Bad Boy" on Wolf Records featuring his wife Vera Taylor, son Tim Taylor on drums and Johnny B.
