This district shares boundaries with Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha to the North and North West. This district is surrounded by Kakinada district to the South, Vizianagaram district to the East, Parvathipuram Manyam district to the North-East, Anakapalli district to the South East, Eluru district & East Godavari district to the South West. Paderu is the District headquarters of ASR District. It is the 2nd largest District of Andhra Pradesh by area and 2nd least populous District of the State. This District was formed in 4 April 2022 by the Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led government as part of a reorganization of all the existing 13 districts in the state to form 26 districts. This district is divided into 3 Revenue Divisions and 22 Mandals. It is Represented in Lok Sabha by 1 constituency. It is also represented by 3 State Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
