Blue Temple Chiang Rai Tour Located in the city of Chiang Rai just north of the Kok River, the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Seua Ten) is well worth a visit. There is currently no entrance fee, but this may change as it becomes very crowded with visitors. The Blue Temple is instantly recognizable by its brilliant hue of rich sapphire. The temple walls, roof and surrounding statues are all covered in this gorgeous hue, an unusual decorative choice in a country where most temples are gold. This color is symbolically associated with the purity, wisdom and lack of materialism that Buddhists aspire to. The blue color comes from the butterfly pea flower, which is generally used for blue coloring in Thai cuisine (blue colored rice for example) or infusion in tea. Since its opening in 2015, the Blue Temple has become increasingly popular as a tourist attraction. On one side of the temple, there are food and drink stalls. The temple is very popular with local tourists. What does "Rong Suea Ten" mean? History of Rong Suea Ten Temple About 80-100 years ago, this place was an abandoned temple. According to the stories told by the elders, there were not many people who settled in the area at the time, so there were a large number of wild animals, especially tigers. Locals passing through this area often saw tigers jumping around or across the ditch, which eventually became the origin of the site called Rong Suea Ten (literal translation from Thai - Dancing Tiger Ditch); a name that also applies to the neighboring village, so it was also called Rong Suea Ten Village. This blue temple in Chiang Rai was built because the locals had nowhere to make merit in the area. Therefore, when they wanted to do it on important Buddhist occasions, they had to go to other temples outside the region, scattering the villagers. Therefore, they teamed up to restore this abandoned temple as a spiritual center for the villagers and a place to host religious ceremonies on important occasions.
