Kawai ES120 Introduction: Thank you for joining us for this installment of our Digital Piano Comparisons video series! Today, we’re going to be comparing the new and improved Kawai ES120 with its predecessor, the ES110. In this video, we will be breaking down the differences between the two models in terms of their tone, touch, features, and speaker systems. The most significant differences and updates can be found in the action, speaker EQ, and onboard interface. We have received a number of requests to tackle this comparison from our community members, so we’re excited to be able to dive into this comparison between two generations of this wonderful digital piano model from Kawai. Piano Sound: One of the main differences between the ES120 and ES110 is the sound quality. When playing through the onboard speaker system, the ES120 has a more rounded and balanced sound, with improved midrange and a better response to dynamic changes. The ES110, on the other hand, has a trebly sound that can become piercing at higher volumes in the upper registers. The ES120 also has a new upright piano sample set and an improved reverb engine, which enhances the richness of the string samples. However, when playing through headphones, there is not a significant difference in how the SKEX samples are rendered. Piano Action: Another key difference between the two pianos is the keyboard action. The ES120 has a more solid feel and a far quieter action due to increased cushioning on the keys. The entire keybed has also been modified, providing a more stable and responsive playing experience. The ES110's action, on the other hand, is less stable and produces more key noise. Both pianos use a dual sensor and do not have escapement, and both have a matte finish on the key surfaces. Features: The ES120 also has an updated onboard interface with new features such as Bluetooth connectivity, built-in Alfred lesson songs, and the ability to control the piano through a smartphone app. These features are not available on the ES110. Both pianos have the same amplifier power rating at 10W per side and tone ports, but the ES120's improved speaker system and reverb engine give it a significant advantage in terms of sound quality. Closing Thoughts: Overall, the Kawai ES120 is an improvement over the ES110 in terms of its action, sound, and features. If you are looking for a digital piano with a better keyboard action, improved sound quality, and more advanced features, the ES120 is the better choice.
