Athearn Genesis Bi-Level Autorack Load

Another long one, just to show you how I slapped 10 Roco Minitank Ford vans into an Athearn Genesis autorack. Ok, there is a bit more to it than that! Come along as I load an Athearn Genesis Bi-Level open side autorack. I tossed around several ideas on what to use as a load, and I settled on using Roco Mini Tanks Ford FK1000 Kasten BW Army vans, Items 661 (Utility Van) and 663 (Ambulance). These are models of "Ford in Europe" vehicles, but I think they look good when painted and loaded in the Rack. The load is based on a Prototype photo I saw in the Morning Sun NYC Color Guide to Equipment. I needed 10 vans nearly the same. I actually got 12- the two ambulances will likely go in another rack. This wasn't a cheap date- the vans cost me around $145 and the autorack itself was $45 (from Ebay). I really don't see how folks can have 15 car trains with these fully loaded- if you want fairly accurate auto loads. It would cost a small fortune! Speaking of a small fortune- my next loaded rack (I may have three total...that is ALL) will be US Army M715 Jeeps from Trident Miniatures. These are resin kits and do look really good. So enjoy the rather long (and long-winded) video. 00:00- Background 04:16- Prototype 07:40- Roco Vans 11:09- Disassembly 17:50- Lettering Removal 24:45- Painting Vans 29:51- Ambulance/Other Vans 32:15- Re-assembly 43:25- The Gang 46:22- Loaded in the Rack 48:15- Wrap Up 50:58- End Photos
