The Beatles-Mean Mr Mustard (isolated piano)

Mean Mr Mustard was recorded on July 24, 25, and 29 of 1969. This one was written by John Lennon during the Beatles trip to India in Spring of 1968. It was considered for inclusion on the White Album but was ultimately shelved. A demo of the song was recorded in May 1968 at George Harrison’s home demo along with the rest of the Esher Demos. The song was recorded as one with Sun King but both are categorized as two different songs. The 35th takes of the songs were deemed the best. The next day they overdubbed vocals and piano, played by John. The song said to have influenced the theme to Thomas the Train, even more coincidental, Ringo later lent his voice to the narration of the show. The final chord of the song was cut as Her Majesty was originally placed between Mr Mustard and Polythene Pam. Paul didn’t like how it sounded so he scraped it. Their engineer instead placed the song at the very end of the album and Paul liked it. In this process, he also cut the end of Mr Mustard and it was attached to the beginning of Her Majesty. The songs includes John Lennon on rhythm guitar fed through a Leslie speaker at the slow speed, lead vocals, and piano, Paul McCartney on fuzz bass and vocals, George Harrison on lead guitar, and Ringo Starr on drums and tambourine. John’s piano part is incredibly simple and yet it fits perfectly. It has a certain bouncing rhythm that matches the bass. There’s only about 4 chords in the entire song. It was incredibly easy to decipher and even easier to actually play.
