Most Toronto golfers have, at some point, walked the fairways of Don Valley. Often overheard... "that place has brutal conditioning"... "slowest round of my life"... "it's too easy". Some despise it, some talk shit about it because that's what is expected of them, yet some absolutely love the place. TPL happens to fall in the latter category. We love Don Valley because it provides an escape in a mega city. It's accessible by subway (on the TTC), and it doesn't break the bank account. It's unique. In 1956, Howard Watson (of Stanley Thompson's stable) built some great green complexes, with some quirky slopes on this site. The two crossings underneath North America's busiest stretch of highway (the 401) provide a nice reminder that a bad day on the links beats a good day in the office. It's estimated that over 400,000 cars cross over this golf course every day. It's just a wild place. Lastly, this place is incredible for a $10 press game or match play event with so many dramatic holes and birdie opportunities on the back side. Take the money you saved on the green fee and toss it right back into the gambling pool, you'll have a good day no matter the outcome.
