UK: PRINCESS DIANA TO GIVE TV INTERVIEW ON BREAK UP OF HER MARRIAGE

(14 Nov 1995) English/Nat Britain's Princess Diana is to give her first TV interview about the break up of her marriage. She is to appear on the BBC's Panorama documentary programme next Monday. Buckingham Palace says the Princess agreed to do the interview on her "own initiative". The news broke as Diana opened a new unit at a top security mental hospital housing some of Britain's most notorious killers. The Princess of Wales arrived at the top security Broadmoor Hospital in Southern England as it was revealed that she's about to go public on her broken marriage. The Princess, who is patron of the British mental health charity Turning Point, was opening a therapy unit and a centre for research into psychiatric disorders linked with violence. She gave no hint about her decision to reveal her side of the royal split. Instead she stuck firmly to the opening ceremony. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm with you today to open the Richard Dadd centre. I always enjoy my visits to the hospital which give me as patron of Turning Point to discuss a range of mental health issues with staff and to meet many of the patients. I have always been impressed with the commitment of the staff who have a very difficult task in providing care to patients some of whom are very seriously mentally disordered. I know that the centre, with its academic unit and its therapy unit will further enhance the work of the hospital. It therefore gives me great pleasure to formally open the Richard Dadd Centre. SUPER CAPTION: Princess Diana, Princess of Wales After the ceremony, Princess Diana was presented with a gift made by the patients.
