Making a Medieval Apple Pie (Following a 14th Century Recipe)

Following a recipe from the kitchens of King Richard II, I made my interpretation of a medieval apple pie. Though the recipe was very vague, I had lots of fun figuring out what spices to use, what quantities, what type of pastry to make, and finally tasting what a medieval apple pie would have been like. I hope you enjoy the video, and try and bake this pie yourself! This is my interpretation of the recipe: For the Filling: 4 Apples 2 Pears 5 Figs 1 Cup of raisins 1 tablespoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon of ginger 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg 1 teaspoon of saffron For the crust: 225g of Flower 150ml of Boiling water mixed with 1 teaspoon of saffron Some of the images used in the video are from the wonderful British Library illuminated manuscript site, and you can find them all and explore them using the links below: Royal 6 E VI https://www.bl.uk/catalogues/illumina...
