Join me for a hike through the forest as I climb up to misty views of our local Bridal Veil waterfall and to a fogged in Lake Serene. This isn’t an easy hike as there are lots of rocks and elevation gain in the last half of the hike. If you do both the waterfall and lake, the gain is about 2,400’ and the official mileage is clocked at 8.2 miles. However, my gps measured 9.2, and several people on Alltrails reported measuring 10 miles. Hiked on July 16, 2021. **If you’re interested in this hike please read up about it and be prepared for conditions. **The lake was fogged in on the day I went, so there were no views to be had, however I enjoyed the forest, the exercise, the mist and the fresh air. I also sampled the following fresh and edible berries: thimbleberry, salmonberry, red huckleberry, black gooseberry, blueberry Bridal Veil Falls Trail from the sign at the trailhead A half mile spur trail trail to a spectacular viewpoint, with 800 feet elevation gain. From the viewpoint you are between the lower and middle falls. Both falls have over 100 feet of vertical drop. For your safety, stay on the trail. The rocks are very slippery when wet, the terrain steep and unforgiving if you were to fall. BRIDAL VEIL FALLS from Wikipedia 1,328-foot (405 meter) waterfall that flows from Lake Serene directly to the South Fork SKYKOMISH River on the creek of the same name in the U.S. State of Washington. It is a perennial 150-foot wide drop with four tiers, two of which ( 350 feet and 250 feet) are clearly visible. This is a strenuous 3.6 mile hike, the last two miles rising steeply with 23 switchbacks and many stairways. From the bridge over Bridal Veil Creek, you will be rewarded with a view of the lower falls. The trail climbs and winds around mossy boulders, past old growth Sitka spruce and big leaf maples.
