Train Drivers View on the intercity service from Rotterdam Central Station to Lelystad Centrum via Schiphol Airport and Almere. Today we get to run a VIRM with 6 carriages. The weather is perfect and on our way to our destination you can see some beautiful cloud sceneries. It’s 17.56 and we depart perfectly on time from our starting point in this video. There’s a sprinter headed to Den Haag CS in front of us with a 3 minute delay so we can’t speed up to our maximum speed at first, but this is no problem for our schedule. Perfectly on time we arrive at Schiedam Centrum. But on our arrival in Delft you see why it’s very important for a train driver to remember his last signal and know where temporary speed limits are applied. From the moment we run into Delft you can see the speed limit (displayed in the left corner) changing a lot of times. As a train driver you must keep track of those speed limits and make sure you’re at the right speed at the right point. With a minute delay we arrive in Delft but after we’ve departed from this station we can get back on our schedule because the sprinter service chose another track in front of us. Now we can speed up to 140km/h and because of this we’re back on time in Den Haag HS. BTW.. on our departure from HS you can see the newest IC-service coming out of Den Haag Central Station headed for Breda and Eindhoven. On our arrival in Den Haag Laan van NOI you can see the other IC-service heading for Amsterdam Central Station passing by as well. This is our crossover transfer at Leiden Centraal. As you can see a bit further in the video we enter Leiden Centraal at the same time and this happens every 15 minutes over and over again. After our departure from Leiden Centraal you can see the Thalys passing by between Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp. This train got diverted because of some infrastructure problem on the high speed lane. Furthermore it’s just quite a nice ride without any difficulties. After we’ve passed through Almere you can see the beautiful sceneries of the Oostvaarderplassen. From the train passengers can see lots of animals living their own ‘wild life’. It’s one of my favourite places to drive a train because of the beautiful landscape that is continuously changing.
