LOGIC PRO X - Audio Editing Part 1

MIDI is great while we're programming musical parts and working out which sounds and notes to use. But it does have its drawbacks. Let's suppose you want to use a pad sound but you want to 'play it rhythmically'. Most pad sounds have long Attack Times, making it impossible to trigger them quickly enough to use in a rhythmic way. But by 'Bouncing In Place' those MIDI regions, they can then be chopped up and edited to create new patterns and rhythms. As Jono explores in this episode, doing this requires Logic Pro X's audio editing tools. We're starting our Audio Editing journey by looking at 'Divide' and 'Multiple Divide', allowing us to create the audio pattern regions we want. And that leads neatly to Crossfades, Fade Ins and Fade Outs, all of which allow us to manage the starts and ends of audio regions, as well as the transitions between them. 00:00 Intro - the many faces of audio editing 00:44 Backing Track playback 00:54 Explaining benefits of pad sounds as audio files 01:42 Listening to each pad separately 02:15 Bouncing Pads as audio files 03:37 Using Scissors Tool to chop audio regions rhythmically 04:31 Switching between regions 05:21 Track playback 05:37 Creating gain offsets to match levels 06:40 Explaining why chopped audio produces clicks 07:52 Creating a comp track 08:37 What is a Crossfade? 09:27 Choosing Crossfade type and time 11:11 Making sure Audio comp track is stereo 11:28 Multiple Divide 12:38 Fade In and Out on multiple regions 13:44 Playback and Fade time adjustments 14:14 Copying Regions and adjusting gain 15:04 Adjusting slice lengths 15:28 Summary
