Stress-related health care and missed work cost employers nearly $300 billion annually. So, how can companies buck the trend of disengaged, high-anxiety employees? Offering amenities is one option. However, creating a team of fungineers takes it to the next level. In this episode of Zappos Stories, Fungineers Audrea Hooper and Tyler Williams talk to us about their unique roles within the company. Their mission is to bring joy and smiles to the company’s 1,500ish employees by creating a one-of-a-kind, “only Zappos would do that” experiences. Comprised of four full-time team members, this in-house team of creatives and tacticians plan dozens of on- and off-campus activities throughout the year. Past and ongoing events include the company picnic, vendor party, holiday events, and more. “Fungineering is meant to support the personality of the brand, which is to be fun, unique and a little irreverent,” states Williams. “It’s designed for the employees to help them stay engaged and have fun at work.” Zappos believes kids shouldn’t be the only ones having fun — hardworking adults deserve some playtime, too.
