Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos receive a warm welcome from United States President Joseph Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as they arrive at the White House in Washington, D.C. on 1 May 2023. The two Presidents hold a bilateral meeting wherein the U.S. President announces the sending of a Presidential Trade and Investment Mission to the Philippines to enhance the American companies’ investments in innovation economy, clean energy transition, critical minerals sector and food security. President Biden reaffirms the iron-clad commitment of the U.S. to the defense of the Philippines, including its continuing support for military modernization, and stresses that both countries not only share a strong partnership but deep friendship enriched by the presence of Filipino-Americans in the U.S. For his part, President Marcos Jr. states that the country “looks to its sole treaty partner” to strengthen alliances and partnerships in the face of the new economy, post-pandemic world and geopolitical issues in the region where the Philippines is located. “I welcome very much the opportunity to come here, to visit with you in the White House and to discuss all these important issues,” the Philippine Chief Executive ends in his remarks.
