State Banquet 07/26/2023

Banquet Hall, Istana Negara July 26, 2023 “It has been a while since a Philippine President has come to visit with you and I am happy to once again re-engage with all our friends in Malaysia at every level,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expresses as he raises a toast to the continuing good health and prosperity of the King and Queen of Malaysia, as well as the strengthening relations of the Philippines and Malaysia in the future, during a state banquet at Istana Negara (National Palace) in Kuala Lumpur on July 26, 2023. Addressing His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustafa’in Billah, Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI (16th King) and the rest of the guests present at the Banquet Hall of the Palace, the President notes the longstanding relations between the Philippines and Malaysia — apart from being partners in the ASEAN and BIMP-EAGA — and imparts the significant role it plays as the Philippines strives to transform its economy post-pandemic. “And that for me is the most important aspect of this visit that I have made to Kuala Lumpur and to Malaysia. I believe that it is a way for us to refocus our efforts together to mutually beneficial effect for our two countries, and to see how we can help one another as we face the post-pandemic future,” he emphasizes. “I see that we must recreate ourselves and transform ourselves to enter and be competitive and to be part of the new world order as it is happening, as it is forming before us now. And Malaysia, as far as the Philippines is concerned, will play a very large part in that transformation. And that transformation is going to be strengthened and made more stable by these partnerships that we make with each other,” President Marcos Jr. adds. As the President enters the hall during the event, he and his official delegation are presented with an opening dance called ‘Gemalaitari’, a folk dance usually performed as a welcoming dance for the guests to signify respect. The Malaysian King also raises a toast to the continued peace and prosperity of the Philippines, and the enduring friendship between the two nations. “Underpinned by our shared interests and close cooperation across many areas, it is our fervent hope that the warm relationship will continue to blossom for the mutual benefits of our people and nations,” His Majesty King Al-Sultan Abdullah underscores. “As founding members of ASEAN, Malaysia and the Philippines must continue to work closely in promoting the region’s stability, security and in making ASEAN a dynamic regional organization,” the King further states.
