Britain Mill is a water powered grist mill nestled on the banks of Turnback Creek in Lawrence County, Missouri. Britain grist mill is a small water powered grist mill used to grind corn into cornmeal. Once powered by a turbine the current mill is set up to run by a undershot wheel. Although the modern version of the equipment inside is actually electrically operated, the unique history of the site is worth exploring. In this video I'll discuses how flour is ground down to make bread, how the millwright made there money and the importance of these mills to the communities that the served. I will also talk about the roll these mills during the civil war. Let's talk about how mills work and why they are located near beautiful water sources.
