In the mid-20th century, a flying fox (a suspended cable-and-pulley system) was used to transport timber from the valley up to the escarpment. Red Cedar known as red gold among the early settlers was highly prized when discovered in these warm temperate rainforests on the slopes , gullies and ridges below the escarpment.
