In this Screen Gems outtake with intermittent sound, former president Harry S. Truman speaks of inviting a man (presumably the senator who had asked him to resign) to a land grant college to see how government works. He says a senator asked him to resign when the Republicans took over Congress, even though the senator was a Democrat. He says the Senator is still in Congress and is now the head of the Foreign Relations Committee. (Given the time period in which this was filmed, the senator is probably Senator Fulbright.) The segment repeats silently with a different camera angle. This item is from the Screen Gems Collection. The Screen Gems Collection consists of outtakes created during the production of the film series, "Decision: The Conflicts of Harry S. Truman" which aired on television in 1964 and 1965. This item is in the public domain. Please credit: Screen Gems Collection, Harry S. Truman Library. This film is part of the Motion Picture series at the Truman Library.
