Marcy Tilton Fabric Design Series - Leaf Embossing onto Velvet Fabric Technique http://www.MarcyTilton.com Leaf embossing can be used with different effects on various fabrics. Velvet will take an embossed effect, showing all the veins and texture of the leaf. The leaves on organza look like skeleton leaves, and the results on silk and linen have an impressionist feeling. Use any strong, leathery, dried leaf, like oak, magnolia, bay, nandina, etc. I look for leaves with a shape I like and that have a strong vein pattern on the backside. Test to make sure the leaf can withstand the iron’s heat. I work at my ironing board, covering the surface with butcher paper. Make test samples to determine how much paint, heat/steam and time to use.
