Kingston to Upper Brewers - Rideau Canal Solo Canoe Trip - Day 1

All of the clips in the video were filmed on Saturday August 28th, 2021. This video summarizes the first day of my solo canoeing adventure on the Rideau Canal. Strava for Day 1:   / strava   In this episode, I was dropped off in Kingston's Confederation Basin Marina at the eastern end of Lake Ontario where I paddling northeast to the Upper Brewers Lockstation. I took the canoe through 7 locks: Kingston Mills - Locks 46/47/48/49, Lower Brewers - Lock 45, and Upper Brewers - Lock 43/44. I paddled through the Cataraqui River, Colonel By Lake and the River Styx. I paddled under a total of 6 bridges including the La Salle Causeway, Hwy 401, CN Railway, Kingston Mills Swing Bridge, Lower Brewers Swing Bridge (Washburn Rd) and Sunbury Road. I also paddled past the Joyceville Institution (a federal prison). The municipalities I paddled through include Kingston and South Frontenac (part of Frontenac County). After arriving at my destination, I spent the night camping on the top side of the Upper Brewers locks.
