All of the clips in the video were filmed on Monday August 30th, 2021. This video summarizes the third day of my solo canoeing adventure on the Rideau Canal. My total paddling distance on this day of the trip was 34.2 km. Strava for Day 3: / strava In this episode, I begin from my campsite at the Chaffey's Lockstation and paddle northeast to the Colonol By Island on Big Rideau Lake. I took the canoe through 2 locks: Newboro - Locks 36 and Narrows - Lock 35. I paddled through Indian Lake, Clear Lake, Newboro Lake, Upper Rideau Lake, and Big Rideau Lake. I paddled under a total of 3 bridges, including the Cataraqui Trail historic railway bridge, County Road 42, and the Narrows Swing Bridge (Narrows Lock Road). I also paddled past the Scott Island Ferry, which is a very small barge with a crank that uses a chain to pull itself across the small narrows between Indian Lake and Clear Lake. I decided not to stop to visit the community of Newboro, nor to paddle the extra distance required to visit Westport, but after arriving at Colonel By Island, I paddled south across Big Rideau Lake to visit the community of Portland for dinner and to stock up on some groceries. The municipalities I paddled through include the Township of Rideau Lakes which is part of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and Tay Valley Township which is part of Lanark County. After returning from dinner, I spent the night camping on Colonel By Island in front of the abandoned Danny Arnstein cottage. Campsite Overnight Oats: • Campsite Overnight Oats - Just Add Wa...
