Squat Depth: The Final Verdict

Squat depth is something that is entirely individual. While it may please the internet to go deeper in your squats...that's not always ideal. Similarly, squatting very high isn't going to be satisfying , either. For most people, I suggest squatting AROUND parallel. Bit above, bit below, whatever. Somewhere around parallel. If you can't get into a near parallel position without getting lumbar flexion (buttwink) then squat higher and work on your hip and ankle mobility in the meantime. If you STILL can't get low...don't worry. Not the end of the world. Satisfying the interwebs isn't worth your health, and there are some unique benefits of squatting higher-maybe not for muscle growth, but for athletic performance it might make sense.
