Swimbait Review: HPH 8" Glide

Swimbait Review: Herring Edition The 8" HPH Glide is a 2 PC resin glide with bristle tail. This particular one is a XXXSS, translating to basically a dead suspend in 75 degree water. Posture at rest is slightly nose down, and maintains that orientation during the retrieve. The straight retrieve is very tight back and forth with quite a bit of body roll on the corners. It will not burn well, as the bait is intentionally tuned to be right at the cusp of being unstable. The straight retrieve does look "fishy", but I personally prefer the glide approach. The introduction of slow reel bumps will get the bait to glide wide and slightly down, while short hits will keep the glide tight and basically turning on itself. Depth can also be achieved through harder reel bumps with the tip down. The xxxss allows this bait to get super wide and then hang out on the pause. In my opinion, the more erratic you get with this bait, the more success you will find. The bait really does well with varying rod and reel bumps, hard chops, etc. Sometimes the wide lazy glide will be what they want, but dont vo afraid to get on it! Rod bumps are also effective, producing a shorter twitch type action. I typically fish the 8" on a Dobyns 806, Tranx 300/400, and 20 lb copoly. The 6" version should really be thrown on conventional tackle, swimbait stuff will kill the action... for the 6" I use a Dobyns 734 or 736CB, Curado 200, and 12-15 fluro. Thanks for joining, hope you enjoy it.
