Brief Gang-gang update 22 August 2024: Most of my wild feather babies abandoned me :-( :-( :-(

A brief Gang-gang update for 22 August 2024. A total of 7 Gang-gangs this morning visiting as pairs and singles. Over the past two weeks we've seen a dramatic reduction in the number of Gang-gangs visiting our feeding table. At the same time we've had a dramatic reduction in the number of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Little Corellas as well (that are largely out of shot, that I don't film). The most likely explanation is that someone else in my neighbourhood, broadly defined, is feeding birds too. Another possible explanation is that the warm early Spring is giving the birds some unexpected natural food supplies. I've been feeding the Gang-gangs every morning for 5 years and I havn't seen a big change in their Winter feeding behaviour like this before. I confess that I'm a little bit disappointed, but the one positive is that I get to save thousands of dollars in costs. This is a labour of love for the declining Gang-gangs, with no government funding, so I will have some extra cash in my pocket, but I'm still sad to see my feather babies go. I'll still keep making some Gang-gang videos but as you can see the quiet Gang-gang table doesn't quite have the same drama and atmosphere as when you have 25-30 Gang-gangs passing through.
