How fuel efficient is the Fronx? Three things to keep in mind: First, Maruti claims that the 1.2-litre engine delivers 22 and 23 kmpl with the AMT automatic being more efficient. The 1-litre turbocharged engine is claimed to deliver 20 and 21 kmpl with the automatic being less efficient. Second, we drove the turbocharged engine only and was surprised to find that it wasn't as thirsty as we expected. On the highway, we saw it return 18 to 20kmpl with the automatic transmission and this number went up to 22kmpl with the manual, which is pretty much on par with the 1.2-litre engine. In the city, it delivered about 10 to 13kmpl with the auto and the number went up to 15kmpl with the manual, which is again like the 1.2-litre engine. Third, the caveat is that turbo petrol engines are more sensitive to traffic conditions and driving styles.
