The Making of a Bell Tent ~ Part 1 (figuring, measuring, cutting canvas) [unintentional ASMR]

There is not much instruction on canvas bell tent making, especially when you actually go to make it and have to think of every detail. A large chunk of the time on this project was spent scouring the internet archives for hard-won snippets, pictures, and clues as to how to achieve this house-making endeavor. The single most useful tool I found was on this website: https://simplydifferently.org/Yurt_No... It is a yurt calculator which helps with measurements, visualization and yardage estimates. I had limited canvas with holes and stains to work around, so I found it invaluable. I still had to do a lot of my own calculating, but this made it not overwhelming. I set the wheel measurement to zero. Although it is not a straight tutorial, I did try to document each step I did, and hope that it might be useful for the next person trying to scavenge for useful information. This tent is quite a custom size due to my canvas requirements and preferences. It is not a 3 or 4 meter, but rather a 3.25 meter tent. It will do wonderfully for being transportable for things like faires and car living, but can still fit two people and important things like, I don't know, my desk, trunk and phonograph. The walls are a bit higher than in most designs, which makes more headspace for less canvas, but also will make the ropes have to reach out farther in setup and the roof less steep (presumably making it less good at shedding water, but the apex not having to be as high). It's a tradeoff to keep in mind. This was a big project. However, having to patch up the last bell tent I stayed in made me more comfortable working with canvas and less intimidated. PART 2    • The Making of a Bell Tent Part 2 ~ Se...   *Note about the shrinkage that happened: I washed and dried with heat to make shrinkage on purpose. It makes the weave tighter and guards against any possible future shrinking which could mess up seams and whatnot (which is why sewists should preshrink fabric before sewing). The problem was just that I should have done all measuring only after washing. Patreon ~   / thegreenwinde   Etsy ~ https://www.etsy.com/shop/DefiantWhimUS Filmed mostly with Iphone SE
