This week's older board game gem is Santiago, published by Amigo in 2003. Players buy and plant crops on super-dry land, and have to get them irrigated for points at the end of the game. One player each round chooses where a new canal is dug, and they're not above a bit of a bribe. Money is scarce, but water is scarcer! Santiago is a deeply interactive game with simple rules and emergent gameplay, and is a great example of the type of game I wish to highlight on this channel. 00:00 Intro 03:01 How to Play 16:55 Why It's a Gem Board Gems is a weekly video series highlighting board games that aren't talked about much any more — maybe they're a bit old (though not usually crazy old), or maybe they didn't make a big splash when they came out — but are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!
