Why I left Christianity after 20 years of preaching - Trisjen Harris

Trisjen HAS just started a YouTube channel! Please check it out and subscribe: ‪@TrisjensChronicles1203‬ _________________________________________ Today I spoke with Trisjen Harris, who grew up in a Baptist environment and became an evangelical preacher for 20 years, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. We touched on many topics, including: • Being heavily influenced by his stepfather, a pastor, and adopting a strict, fear-based Christian worldview. • Having profound experiences with god early in life, marked by a strong emphasis on sin, repentance, and salvation. • By age 17, committing his life to Jesus and experiencing a deep, personal transformation. • Becoming a youth pastor and pursuing formal theological training at Moody Bible Institute and Liberty University. • Doing many years pastoral ministry characterized by strict adherence to doctrine and a strong emphasis on evangelism. • Seeing his faith start to unravel after experiencing church politics, doctrinal discrepancies, and observing a lack of diversity and authenticity in congregations. • Becoming disillusioned as he noticed the same people repeatedly praying for help without tangible results. • After leaving his original church, joining a Vineyard church but continuing to wrestle with the lack of diversity in church and the contradictions in the Bible. • Questioning the Bible's validity and the authenticity of its narratives, which kicked his deconstruction journey into high gear. • Shifting from fundamentalist to more liberal Christian beliefs before eventually rejecting Christianity altogether. • Sharing his change in beliefs to his loved ones, emphasizing everyone's right to choose their own spiritual path. • Enjoying a life free from religious constraints, respecting others’ autonomy, and rejecting dogmatic beliefs and doctrines. • Reflecting on how life as a Christian felt like being trapped in a mental prison, while life outside Christianity now offers a renewed sense of freedom and purpose. Thanks to Trisjen for sharing his story! _________________________________________ Buy the shirt and support ‪@ichapod‬! https://ichapod-shop.fourthwall.com/ _________________________________________ Your support for my channel, Harmonic Atheist, is very needed and appreciated!
