Class 43s and Heavy Loads at Carlisle. Blue Pullman, Colas 43s, Heavy aggregates 25 & 26 January 23 Taken over two days. Network Rail have been moving a fair amount of ballast and waste to and from their Virtual Quarry and depot at Carlisle Yard. The Ravenstruther to Longport Land Recovery site aggregates are still running each lunchtime behind one of the Carlisle based (or Grangemouth) Class 70s. The Log train to Chirk still runs down the WCML. On 26th (and 27th) Locomotive Services Ltd ran their 'Midland Pullman' HST from Crewe to Carlisle. I nearly missed it departing as it left as a DB Cargo Network Rail train loaded with ballast was passing at the same time. Just caught the Pullman leaving! It was interesting to compare it alongside the Colas Class 43s top and tail on the PLPR Track Inspection train. Note this is not the 'Flying Banana which has Mark 3 stock conversions. The Track Inspection train is made up of Mark 2 conversions - one of the carriages in the formation is ex-DRS!
