Sego Lily (Calochortud nuttallii) is part of a genus which includes more than 60 species in North America. This species is edible and delicious. However, it’s aesthetic beauty is unsurpassed. With that in mind, it is best to refrain from picking this plant. I have only rarely eaten this plant. Restraint allows the conscientious naturalist or forager to take great joy in knowing that the plant will continue to provide joy in the future.
