Backpacking Red River Gorge Kentucky Pt.2

Welcome back to part two of our three-day adventure to the Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest, KY! We started the day off on a much better trail system than day one. The first half of day two was your standard Red River Gorge experience walking past enormous rock structures that show off the amazing geology of the area. Our objective for day two was to make our way to Hansen's Point and find a good campsite nearby. Despite it being a Saturday with great weather and amazing leaf color, we managed to snag a spot on the ridge about a half mile from the point. We set up camp and made our way to Hansen's Point and enjoyed the sunset. Despite the forest floor being picked clean of firewood, I managed to scavenge enough wood to sustain a small campfire for a few hours. Being on the top of a ridge, I hoped for clear skies so I would have some nice views of the stars laying in my Warbonnet hammock, and that's exactly what happened! Unfortunately, Sara wasn't able to see the stars inside her Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo tent, but she was in desperate need of some sleep after hiking 11 miles! Day three finished up with some more awesome rock formations and the most stunning feature of Red River Gorge, Gray's Arch. The video footage never does this place justice. The forests are dense and the lighting is sparse. Many of the rock features are well over 100 feet tall and almost impossible to get into frame. I highly recommend you do your own trip to this area and experience the beauty in person! This is my second three-day backpacking trip to Red River Gorge.
