Is the Salewa Quick Screw the best ice screw? | Ice Climbing Vlog Ep. 27

The Salewa Quick Screw is the best ice screw right now! At least that is what I think! What this ice climbing gear review video about the Salewa Quick Screw ice screw if you want to know why I believe this is the best ice screw right now. But before we take a look at the Salewa Quick Screw ice screw, remember to subscribe to the channel if you want to receive more ice climbing videos, alpine climbing videos and rock climbing videos. And gear advice! The Salewa Quick Screw ice screw is a traditional ice screw with an embedded quickdraw that performs absolutely amazing! But, the ice screw not perfect! But we will look at that later in this ice climnbing gear review video. Other brands like Grivel has tried to embed a quickdraw in an ice screw earlier – like the Grivel Helix - but they didn’t really rack well. But, the Salewa Quick Screw really resolves all of the problems that Grivel and or ice climbing gear brands couldn’t cover. The Salewa Quick Screw ice screw racks really well. You clip the ice screw to your harness like it was a normal quickdraw. This has this huge benefit as it is really easy to get the right size – something that is a bit harder if you have six ice screws hanging on one ice clipper! And another benefit that it does not get caught in your harness or clothing With the embedded quickdraw and you also carry less gear, and the Salewa Quick Screw is really compact. So this is one of the arguments for the Salewa Quick Screw being the best ice screw right now. And the ice screw is razor sharp and really easy to screw in - and to retrieve too. With the embedded quickdraw there is no fear of dropping the ice screw while retrieving it as you just let it hang in rope while you unscrew it. But, the Salewa Quick Screw can be a bit tough to get used to! As they are hanging on the quickdraw end you have to turn it with one hand, while dangling in your ice axe with the other! Then you have to unclip the ice screw from the plastic holder – either by pressing the plastic holder against the ice. One worry I do have with the Salewa Quick Screw though, is that there is a lot of plastics on these ice screws. I would worry that this eventually wear out. And the Salewa Quick Screw is a bit pricier than normal ice screws. But if you add a standard quickdraw to the price of an ordinary ice screw, then price is pretty much on par. The Salewa Quick Screw ice screw comes in lengths at 13 cm, 16 cm and 19 cm. And at 200 gram for the 16 cm Salewa Quick Screw it is a heavy ice screw compared to a 16 cm Black Diamond Express at 146 gram. But if you add a Black Diamond Hood Wire quickdraw to that the Salewa Quick Screw is suddenly at least 50 gram lighter!
