The products after 2 hot days outside. -Rust remover: dries up leaving a dry, 'rust like' surface but with a harder texture. This is iron phosphate ( I think). -Galvanizing compound: Not recommended. It is initially soft, no adherence, and rubs off by hand. Seems to harden somewhat to the cast iron surface after a few days, but remains soft and powder like, even when applied to a galvanized surface. -Tremclad Rust reformer: forms a good hard surface, did not scratch off, good adherence to cast iron and even clean steel. Forms a black layer, which I suspect is due to an acidic reaction with the steel, but would have to confirm. It certainly has better adherence than the tremclad rust paint alone, at least initially. Perhaps both harden and get the same adherence over time??? Would require more testing to verify. Combinations of the products didn't produce any improvement. None of these products, and neither their combinations surpass the quality of the original primer rust dip on the Rambler. Even though it's over 50 years old, the purple primer or colour doesn't come off even after hitting it with heavy wire wheel.
