Radiation protection is necessary to workers occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation and to authorized users of radioactive materials and nuclear instruments. These ensure that the workers as well as the general public are not unnecessarily exposed to ionizing radiation. PNRI provides personal dosimeters such as thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) and the newer optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimeters to thousands of personnel in the medical and industrial sectors. The Institute also performs area monitoring and leak testing of sealed radioactive sources to make sure that work areas and operation conditions are in accordance with national radiation safety standards. Through its Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory, PNRI also calibrates radiation monitoring instruments and activity meters to ensure accurate and traceable radiation measurements. PNRI operates the centralized Radioactive Waste Management Facility for low and intermediate-level radioactive wastes in the country for treatment and temporary storage of disused radioactive materials. #nuclearPH #dostPNRI #ScienceForThePeople
