Cover of Diary of a Madman by Ozzy Osbourne

Here is my cover of Ozzy’s Diary of a Madman with my daughter Jessica on vocals. We hope you enjoy it! My first Ozzy album was Diary of a Madman in 1981, ordered on a whim through Colombia House (who remembers them LOL) because I thought the name Ozzy Osbourne sounded cool. I was quite new to music and had not yet taken up guitar, but I was amazed by the complexity and the maturity of the music on this album, especially the epic title track. Randy Rhoads (guitar), Bob Daisly (bass), Lee Kerslake (drums), Johnny Cook (keyboards), Max Norman (producer), and of course Ozzy, really outdid themselves on this album. As a kid, this album inspired me to start playing guitar with the dream of one day playing guitar for Ozzy – of course, that never happened. Over the years of learning guitar and listening to this album, I have come to appreciate it even more. Definitely one of the best albums of all times in my books. In the summer of 1997, I programmed all of the drums, bass, strings and violin parts for Diary of a Madman into my old cakewalk for DOS program, using a Roland sound canvas for the sounds, so I could have a jam track to play along to (no YouTube jam tracks in 1997 LOL) . Flash forward to the summer of 2021 - I was getting into home audio/video recording, and I found the old cakewalk file. So as a learning process, I converted the file to midi and doctored up the tracks to work with my new computer and software. I then recorded all of the guitar tracks with video, but I couldn’t find anyone to sing it so it just sat on my hard drive. In the meantime, my daughter Jessica took up singing as a hobby and we were recently looking for a new song to do a video cover of. I played this track for her thinking she would have no interest, but she really liked it and wanted to do the vocals – so I thought that was a great idea. I had never heard a female cover this song before. It is kind of cool because this video was really 25 years in the making and the process started 5 years before Jessica was even born - and it combines two of my favorite things, Ozzy music and hanging out with Jessica! So we hope you enjoy it!
