Test Ride: 2024 Kawasaki Eliminator 450 SE

Kevin ( ‪@ExcelsiorDDZ‬ , Bikes.and.Pizza on IG) let me test ride his new 2024 Kawasaki Eliminator 450 SE to get my opinion on it. This was a very short test ride, but I came away with some quick views about it. Skip around with the chapter markers below. The Eliminator's ergonomics are subjectively better than the Rebel 500's because of the roomier handlebar and footpeg placements. The rider triangle feels more comfortable and neutral. The Eliminator's factory seat is also significantly more comfortable than the Rebel's plank. Unfortunately, the Eliminator's buzzy handlebars and footpegs are noticeably worse than the Rebel's, so that zeroes the comfort benefits, in my opinion. I think the Eliminator looks better than the Rebel... it's lower and more sleek. The Rebel's huge fuel tank looks out of place on the 500 and 1100 and doesn't blend into the lines of the bike, where the Eliminator's tank looks like it belongs there. However, I prefer the Rebel's lower rear fender for that bobber aesthetic. The Eliminator's taller tail looks bulky to me... but those are my subjective opinions. The Eliminator's speedometer is extremely optimistic... a whopping 10%! That's the worst I've seen on any modern motorcycle, particularly with digital instrumentation. Kawasaki's "RIDEOLOGY" smartphone app is the one bonus over current Honda offerings. I couldn't demo that feature during this quick ride, but it's very impressive from what Kevin showed me on his phone. The app can record the bike's telemetry during rides, including GPS location, speed, throttle position, gear position, and other engine metrics. You can replay the ride and watch it on a map with real-time telemetry. That's cool for stats geeks like myself! Is the Eliminator 450 SE worth $7249 MSRP? Is it "better" than the Honda Rebel 500 ABS SE for $6999 MSRP? Unknown on both accounts. I'd need more saddle time on the Eliminator to see how it compares to my Honda CB500-series bikes. My first instinct is NO. I think the Eliminator needs a few upgrades to be on par with the Honda, and that's more $$$ on top of the already high MSRP. The Eliminator feels less refined than the Rebel 500 in terms of road feel and handling, and its engine is busier (buzzier) than the Honda.
