Your sUAS must be equipped with a lighted anti-collision light visible at least 3 SM (with a flash rate sufficient to avoid a collision). Same light requirement for operating during civil twilight. Looking for recurrent training? If you are already a certified Remote Pilot looking for Recurrent Night Training in order to qualify for the new 2021 night rules, you must: Take the mandatory free FAA Recurrent Training available 4/6/2021 at www.faasafety.gov (full link below the video) In addition to the FAA training, you can take our free training module (more interactive and more in-depth than the FAA training) but you also MUST take the official FAA training. A training Period of 15 days The FAA is making the training available online 15 days before the regulation goes in effect. April 6 to April 21 is the training period. Warning! Don’t rush to take the training on April 6, 2021. It will crash the server. You can’t fly until April 21, 2021 without a waiver. Will this be on the exam? If you take your initial written exam after April 6, 2021 then yes, you can expect night operations questions on the exam. The good news is, our night training module is already available in our Part 107 Made Easy course. We also have a quiz available there for you to practice your knowledge. Who does this apply to? This section only applies to Remote Pilot certificate operating under Part 107. If you are a recreational flyer operating under Section 44809, you cannot follow this regulation. Typical Questions Q: I took my initial exam in late January 2021, what do I need to do now? A: If you took the exam prior to April 6, 2021, you will need to take the free online FAA training available at faasafety.gov. Note that it will also qualify as recurrent training, resetting your 24-calendar month clock. Q: I have a 107.29 waiver, do I still need to take the recurrent training online? A: If your waiver was issued prior to 4/6/2021, it will expire on May 17, 2021. Q: Do I need to be compliant with Remote ID in order to fly at night. A: No, until Remote ID becomes a requirement on 9/16/2023, it is not required to fly at night. Q: I completed my online training on April 6, 2021, when can I start flying right away? A: April 21, 2021 is the first day you can start flying since it’s the day the regulation goes in effect. Q: I took the Pilot Institute training module online, can I start flying at night? A: Only if you took the initial written exam after April 6, 2021. Otherwise you will need to complete the FAA training online to qualify. Q: I completed my online training on April 6, 2021, when can I start flying right away? A: April 21, 2021 is the first day you can start flying since it’s the day the regulation goes in effect. Q: I took the Pilot Institute training module online, can I start flying at night? A: Only if you took the initial written exam after April 6, 2021. Otherwise you will need to complete the FAA training online to qualify. The FAA has relaxed the regulation to fly your drone at night without a waiver, effective April 21, 2021. Instead of requesting a waiver, you now need to complete training on Night Operations.
